Cheating

To prevent people from cheating would be appropriate for lichess detect when a player clicks outside the window lichess and to force his resignation.
This system is used on other sites.
I understand the problem but I don't want to do that. I often click outside the window when playing, to discuss in IRC, check my mail, program, monitor the server...

Moreover, with 2 computers it's still possible to cheat.
Ok, don't worry. A registration system would also help to avoid the cheating players.
That would be just stupid. I often do something else while my opponent is thinking.

Also, you don't even need to have 2 computers. For example, I have a chess program on my smartphone.
guys honestly there is no reason anybody who has a brain would cheat on an unrated chess site using chess engines.
You're absolutly right. But it already happened, I saw it. It's so ridiculous.
I do not know currently what could be done to reduce chances of cheating but some people are cheating here, that's for sure.

>To prevent people from cheating would be appropriate for lichess detect when a player clicks outside the window lichess and to force his resignation.

This would be little extreme but could be a solution.

>Moreover, with 2 computers it's still possible to cheat.

Very few people will go to that far length to cheat.

>Ok, don't worry. A registration system would also help to avoid the cheating players.

I'll be highly against registration system in lichess.org. Even if lichess.org someday decide to use registration system then anonymous game must be main focus of website. I left another site when
they enforced registration where I used to play anonymous (used to be average of 200+ players at any given time). Since then I have never returned to that site and now I play at lichess.org because it
allows me to play anonymous without any tensions of ratings etc. That's the difference between FaceBook.com and 4chan.

>guys honestly there is no reason anybody who has a brain would cheat on an unrated chess site using chess engines.

Trust me, I have experienced it myself. Some people here do cheat. I have given some time thinking that why would anyone cheat? Maybe some are thinking "I might learn chess this way" or maybe people
do it because they can do it so easily and just for laughs (similar to trolling). But soon enough they loose the initiative of learning and simply do cheating because winning every time is addiction
in itself. Nobody want to lose but trust me with cheating you'll learn nothing.

Would it be too harsh if there is a rule that a player can play only one game in a browser in lichess.org/?

Because I think, easiest way of cheating will be to open another tab in same browser and start another game against computer in lichess.org.

How you know you are victim of cheating?

Simple, either we have GM/IM levels of players in lichess.org (that will be great) or we have cheaters, who never make mistake, do perfect opening like they have memorize the whole opening book.

In normal human vs. human game, both players make mistakes (which is acceptable). Human players try to detect those mistakes and if found then try to exploit it. Human players have style, strategy,
tactics, position play and have personal way of utilizing specific pieces. Whereas, computer does not work on strategy but play like an automated machine with no soul and with ultimate target just to
check mate.

Hi again anon.

I take the problem seriously. I'm not fond of preventing from playing simultaneous games. I know good players here enjoy doing it.

But it gave me an idea. Maybe I can check if 2 currently played game are exactly similar, after, say, ten moves.
If one of these 2 games is played against an AI, I'd able to blame the player as a cheater. And make him resign.

Sounds good, what do you think?
Hi thibault,

That will be awesome. That's a great idea. This way people can play multiple games simultaneously (if they want to). But it will prevent causal cheating on site. Of course, it will not prevent
cheating totally but reduce the casual cheaters (if someone goes to all troubles and do cheating specifically using other softwares but there will be very few who'll do it.)

I hope it won't be that difficult to implement, detecting that in currently playing games, no two games (with one against AI and other human vs. human) are same after 10 (or so) moves.
