a puzzle

I have recently solved some tactics in lichess to test the new tactics trainer, which is much better than the previous one btw, and I have encountered soooo many positions just like this.
I mean look at this, one king completely naked on e7
The other king on g1 with open-h file and a black pawn on g2
white has a passed pawn on a6 (!?)
white's queen is on the worst possible square and is doing nothing
black has actually zero control over the board in a completely open position
how can such positions even arise in the game of chess :)
Anyway congratz for the total chaos
@MorningCoffee

Haha, yes it is very chaotic : )

But, there are only 2 winning moves for white, despite blacks apparent lack of control.

One move leads to mate.

Can anyone find the move?
Is it Rd7+? (1...Kxd7 2.Qd3+) or (1...Ke6 2. Nf4+) or (1...Kf6 2.e5+)
@mruknowwho

Yes Rd7+ is correct. Nice one.

If 1...Kxd7 then yes the queen comes in on the d-file and it's mate in 6.

If 1...Ke6 then 2. Qa2+ with mate in 4.

If 1...Kf6 then it's mate with 2. Rb6+ and 3. Rd5#.

Your suggestions after 1. Ke6 and 1...Kf6 also lead to mate but in more moves.

Cheers
Well, it's WAY better than most of the random puzzles. A bautiful 6-moves forced mate that hasn't been replicated on training for months.

Seriously, most of them are either getting a bishop for a pawn, getting quality advantage, capturing two pawns or other minor things like that in 1-2 obvious moves.

The only hard ones are the ones that cause you to spend an hour thinking just how in the love of Arceus the opponent left that (insert piece here) right on the spot for a pawn to get it for free.

Seriously, from a scale 1 to 10, the quality of random puzzles must be measured in negatives. With scientific notation. Even the mate-in-one captchas are sometimes more challenging than some of the puzzles.
Since there is no good way of defending against Qxh2, a series of checks seemed to be mandatory in your puzzle. After I realized that, finding the solution was not that hard. But still a fun puzzle!
@scuffi haha, yes it's more obvious when you put it like that. congrats on solving the puzzle : )

@SJMistery I agree it's a lively position and you don't get that in every training puzzle. Although they have recently updated the puzzles, you might find it better now.
What an exiting move. I spent about 5 minutes and did not find it. I quickly looked at it for about 10 seconds but decided that it was garbage for some reason. Cool puzzle move.
I found it at the very start, didn't bother proving it, because everything else looked like a draw.
