Rigid system of punishments

I'm not one of the mods who does the banning, but you are indeed also marked. You probably knew that already.

It is very harsh with no real way to challenge any such decision since under appeal you are deemed guilty. So now I have to actively promote other sites and not promote a site with decent softawre to literally hundreds of future players.
In short, if they gave me a ban on the game for 1 month, for example, I would no longer violate it, but now I’ll just go to competitors!

For sure and why not. They might not be as good, but at least they don't ban for life without discussion of action. And long term every single person you introduce to chess will never hear about the good side of Lichess because the negatives are over the top.
Fair players also have rights. If leniency means I’ll encounter twice as many cheaters then HELL NO! Cheaters are allowed to open a second account after appealing in most cases. The current policy doesn’t encourage ban evasion, it encourages fair play.
Or you could just like, not cheat. Lichess doesn't care if you go to a 'competitor'. This is free and supported by donations. Have fun paying to do more than 3 puzzles a day.
