it is very new. i think that whole thing first started being popular like just a couple of years ago or so. i feel like it has emerged because a lot of men are lost and looking for answers/role models or something. but idk
@lilyhollow that is not new, the name for this is new. Sigmas always existed.
yes but imagine if there were suddenly group of people who started calling themselves "the banana men." they are the men who like bananas. that would be pretty weird/notable right? we would think, 'i wonder why the banana men are here all of a sudden.'
now they could say, "banana men have been around forever," and that is true, there have always been men who liked bananas. but it would still be pretty weird that all of a sudden they have a name and subculture based around it

@lilyhollow It's not weird, language always changes over time...just read a book from 100 years ago.

Even tho sigma always existed, the name is not new, it's just that the popularity of this personality increased in the past year.

if you read a book and found that to be true, you wouldn't think to yourself, 'hm, interesting, i wonder why that is'?
like another example here is "incels." obviously these people always existed, but now there is a name for them, and basically some kind of subculture. i definitely think it's worth considering what the cultural circumstances were that contributed to that being the case
@lilyhollow we need a name for people who like to post a lot chat/forums. :D
There are like 2 group of people:
1. People who write a lot in comments and respond fast to it.
2. People who comment after 2-3 days or even later.

1. Presponsers (I like the name since we are on a chess website the term "pre-move is very common, and you are talking about the response time of comments, so you put them together and you get "Presponse")
2. Classical Commenters (I like the name since the time control "Classical" is one of the slowest, so the name should be "Classical Commenters")

Sigma is not just about being alone (there is a lot of information about sigma on the internet, but some of it is wrong and some of it is right), sigma is a combination of different things, what makes a sigma is a lot of things but too much to write right now because there are different types.
