Calling things the same that are only similar is the mark of weak eyes. What is the meaning of your friend's accusation? Chess is repetitive? Chess is boring? Sure, there are instances of this involved in the game, but to boil chess down to only one word, and call it something like boring or repetitive, is an attempt to justify one's own ineptitude and lack of enthusiasm and understand of the game.

Chess is a game in which a myriad of adjectives may be applied, to denote it as only one, negative attribute, and to use this accusation as a reason to quit, automatically betrays the shallow nature and lazy lack of interest in going deeper by the accuser.

They might find it "repetitive", but that is only their own shallow perspective, and not at all a statement that should be claimed as a universal truth.

Chess always brings something new. Even if you play the same opening always, it is close to near impossible to always get the same endgame. Whoever said chess is repitive has not studied it nor played much.

The one saying chess openings are repetitive... well, I spent over 100 hours on it and I easily can say, I don't know anything.

Yes, chess is a game where statistical significance is cherished highly. A player will not play a move that is so poorly rated that it may cost them position or tempo.

Chess is repetitive in the way that a lot of video games are. Sure, the basic levels (the first 5-10 moves) are the same, but as you advance levels, you find a lot more creative play. Same with video games - the further levels are typically not as basic as the introductory ones. At least the games that I play.

If you don't like playing the same moves, I highly suggest you change your style of play. One of the nice things about this game is there are hundreds of opening sequence variations for you to choose from.

Finally, if you're really bent on how repetitive it is, maybe it's not for you.

If you're talking about RPGs or MMOs, those tend to be all the same. Poor analogy, but I see what you're trying to say.

Regretfully for you, I'm not. I find both RPGs and MMOs to be boring as can be.
